Can Pheromones Really Find You a Mate?

I sat down with Passion Parties Consultant Caroline again to find out, can pheromones really find you a mate? I must be honest that I was nervous to post any additional interviews with her as my first (if you haven’t read it, click here) on kegal balls got me suspended from Instagram. But, for you my lovely readers, I am taking the risk (and not posting this to Instagram because they are apparently even more prude than I am!)  Back to the task as hand – pheromones.

First things first.  In case you don’t know, pheromones are chemicals that are secreted in our sweat and other bodily fluids that are believed to influence the behavior of the opposite sex, such as triggering sexual interest and excitement. Who doesn’t like the idea of a “come hither” elixir?

In most animals, the relationship between pheromones and mating is straightforward. Sea urchins, for example, release pheromones into the surrounding water, sending a chemical message that triggers other urchins in the colony to eject their sex cells simultaneously. Human pheromones, on the other hand, are highly individualized, and not always noticeable. In 1986 Dr. Winifred Cutler, a biologist and behavioral endocrinologist, found if you’re looking for the man or woman of your dreams, unsuspecting pheromones in your body scent are most likely playing a large and very clever role in mate attraction. We usually smell best to a person whose genetically based immunity to disease differs most from our own. However, when women take birth control pills, some studies suggest that this process can be altered and women may be more sexually attracted to the odor of males with genes more similar to themselves. Not the best match.  Well, fuck.

So we now know that pheromones are extremely important in finding a mate, but if you are on birth control, you might not be smelling the right partner.  All the more reason to try and attract the right one, am I right? Enter our good (and super fun) friends at Passion Parties.

Passion Parties has a product, Pure Instinct, which is a unisex pheromone-based scent is a powerful attractant, communicating your sexual readiness and heightening your partner’s desires. Ummm, ok.  I wouldn’t mind communicating my sexual readiness through scent, so she gave me a sample.  I don’t know if it works or has a ridiculous placebo effect, but the males were like bees to honey! Also, something unexpected happened as well…I ran into a guy that I had met before (and wasn’t really interested in) and came ridiculously close to pushing him up against a wall and taking advantage of him because he then seemed to be the sexiest man alive.

I obviously bought a bottle.  However, I am much more careful about when I wear it.  A night out on the town? Yes.  A business meeting? No. (because I did and that was awkward and might be the subject of another post…)

In addition to Pure Instinct, their entire line of Body by Passion Parties is infused with sexual attractants.  They have body butter, body wash, body scrubs, and even a toning body butter.  If you are in LA and want to book a Passion Party, send Caroline an email (  If you mention 30adjacent, you will get a hosting bonus.  Not in LA? No problem, you can order from the privacy of the internet here.

Bottom Line: Who knows if pheromones work? All I know, is I had fun.  Pick up some lotions, body scrubs and Pure Instinct.  And because I love you, enter 30ADJ at check out to save 20% on your entire order throughout the month of June.
